January 15, 2011 - Not just when you feel thirsty, by then you are already dehydrated. Many of the issues we see in our office on a regular basis (headaches, constipation, muscle soreness, etc.) can be greatly affected by water intake or lack thereof. As a general baseline for water intake I recommend people to take their weight in pounds divide by 2 and drink that many ounces per day. This would be for the average person, if you are highly active you would need to drink more.
As chiropractors we are required to take yearly continuing education courses. This weekend I (Dr. Jim) am attending an upper extremity adjusting class and after getting thru the 1st day I'm already very excited to get in the office on Monday and use some of my new evaluations and techniques with patients. These new skills I am acquiring will be very helpful diagnosing shoulder issues (frozen shoulder, impingement, nerve entrapment, etc.), carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS), costoclavicular syndrome, hand numbness/weakness, etc. I am also learning techniques and exercises to rehab these various conditions.
